Inviting R. Gregory Christie to your school affords students a spectacular opportunity to get inside the mind of an award-winning children’s book illustrator and explores the making of picture books. Mr. Christie, a natural with children and teens, draws on stories from his arts education, and the creative process. Participants will be enlightened and inspired by Christie’s informed, down to earth view of the literary and visual arts

Some topics:

• How a book is produced – start to finish
• Do’s and don't's when illustrating a book
• Lessons in perspective, realism, and abstraction
• The effects of color and composition
• The importance of reading
• The interaction between art and text
• The relationship between illustrator, author and publisher
• Why Christie paints such big hands and skinny necks
