Inviting R. Gregory Christie to your school

mind of an award-winning children’s book illustrator
and explores the making of picture books. Mr. Christie, a
natural with children and teens, draws on stories from his

be enlightened and inspired by Christie’s informed,
down to earth view of the literary and visual arts
Some topics:
• How a book is produced – start
to finish
• Do’s and don't's when illustrating a book
• Lessons in perspective, realism, and abstraction
• The effects of color and composition
• The importance of reading
• The interaction between art and text
• The relationship between illustrator, author and publisher
• Why Christie paints such big hands and skinny necks
